Mercedes: becoming greener brings success

9.jpgThe environmental protection movement is now something like a competition among the automakers. BMW and Audi were the leaders in this line. Mercedes-Benz in its turn does not want to be behind their backs and also decided to take part in this useful changing. According to head of R&D at Mercedes parent DaimlerChrysler, Thomas Weber, they should be definitely the first and be the winners.

How are they going to achieve this? Mercedes-Benz will use a new technology, or, in other words, Mercedes’s own version of the start-stop technology. The winning point is fuel saving. The whole lineup is coming in September with the A and B-class cars. One more important thing is that some sources point out that Mercedes is looking for Valeo’s supply with its belt-driven stop-start system.
Mercedes adds it will use some more techniques, such as the ISG system. This is a very sophisticated system, as it can combine the function of a starter and a generator. It also can smooth out gearshifts and reduce engine vibration.
